On 29 April 2016 Agnese Benzonelli, PhD candidate at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL, tested this object using pXRF as part of her researcher into the use of black bronze alloys in the ancient and medieval world.

Description (Physical description)
Bronze disc brooch. Central hole surrounded by concentric rings. Three bands of decoration surround the central hole, separated by incised concentric rings: apparently circular punch marks (obscured by corrosion), circular punch marks, and triangular punch marks along the rim. On reverse, catchplate broken at top, hinge obscured by iron corrosion of pin.

Description (Physical description)
Copper alloy disc brooch. Central hole surrounded by concentric circles. Followed by three bands of decoration separated by incised concentric circles: circular punch marks (obscured by corrosion) and triangular punch marks along the rim. Remains of corroded iron pin in pin bar lug, catchplate damaged but present.
