Context (Related Documents)
Catalogue card notes: "The harness belonged to Johannes Nilsson Nutti, an old Lapp, who looked over sixty years old and who was living in Mikel Rasti's " stuga" at Porjus. (Rasti was Nutti's son in law). He said that the " lenkut" was thirty years old and that it was painted afterwards. Nutti said that he made it himself. Note his initials. They explained that the decorated cloth piece, although it looked new, had been hanging unused in the storeroom for years and was formerly only used for going to market. It was not used for ordinary migration (which was still carried out in reindeer sledges). The owner had this clothpiece prior to 1923, when they moved to Porjs from Karesuando."
