Context (CMS Context)
Written in Perso-Arabic. See Z 46842.41 ['Assume it’s from the Kingdom of Nagpur. Raghoji III, the last king, died without an heir in 1853 and the British took over under the Doctrine of Lapse after which it became Nagpur Province. In 1861 it became part of the ‘Central Provinces and Berar’. Do not know if this is an older seal of the king, or a seal of one of the British commissioners appointed by the Governor-General to rule. It was Sir Richard Temple from 1864-1867']. [Information provided by Danika Parikh, Department of Archaeology]
