Description

Chalcedony bead which has first been etched white all over and then had the black spots added by re-etching. This has flaked out in one or two spots suggesting inlay, but examining the other spots shows that this was not inlaid

A typed note attached to the card says: "These are a few of a set of beads, coins, etc, dug up at Taxila, North West India many years ago by Major General Walker who presented them to me in 1903 after reading my Early Age of Greece. The fine set of beads are strung separately with a label ' Taxila' with Nos. 1927.876, 877, 878 and 879". B and D are figured in the Beck reference above; Ref. Plate: LXVIII : L and O

Context (Analysis)
During the week of 21 July 2017, Dr Akinori Uesugi, Kanazawa University, and Wannaporn (Kay) Rienjang, Division of Archaeology, took moulds this bead using hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression material.
