Context (Analysis)
Professor Norman Hammond examined this object in 2014 and believes it is from modern-day Mexico or American southwest. This is based on the inscription 'Tecla', as she was a saint and Santa Tecla is a place in El Salvador, so it might be from elsewhere in Central America. Originally the iridescent glaze suggested a possible Islamic background, but it was not recognized by curators at the Fitzwilliam Museum nor at AIIT.

Context (Amendments / updates)
The label affixed to bottom of this cup does not clarify whether the object was on loan to MAA, or on loan from MAA. Imogen Gunn searched the Museum Committee Minutes book for 1958 to 1962 with no mention of a loan that fits this description. Similarly she has checked the Museum Annual reports (1959-1960 to 1962-1963) with no luck.
