numbers such as O.VI.55.H.A. were given to the collection by Anatole von Hügel. It is currently unknown whether this numbering system was something he applied to his own personal collection, or something he devised as the Museum’s first numbering system. In all cases, the presence of an ‘A’ in superscript at the end seem to refer to an object that has been purchased rather than something that was collected by von Hügel in the Pacific.

Description (CMS Description)
Necklace formed of half shells (possibly from Cypraeidae family) attached longitudinally at the top and bottom with a twisted fibre string. Some shells are missing in the centre. From the back, the binding takes a ladder-like aspect.
