Description (CMS Description)
Club used in dancing. Monoxyle and heavy. The head of the club is canoe-shaped, tapering to a point and curving upwards. The tip of the head is pierced with a small hole. The head is decorated with geometrical motifs in red and black pigments on all sides. On the upper side, there are two triangular faces curving upwards carved in relief, with small holes pierced through their nose. A length of grey seed beads is still attached to one of the holes. The head is covered in a thick ‘skirt’ of dark brown hibiscus fibre. The handle is thick and circular in section and terminates in a slightly convex knob. A circular hole is pierced through the handle and a length of plaited plant fibre with hollow tubes of cane and seed pods is attached to it and serves as a rattle. There is a very large crack along the handle.
