Context (CMS Context)
There is uncertainty as to where this paddle originates. The object labels and acquisition register seem to indicate that is connected to San Cristoval (Makira) while a note on one of the object's labels indicates 'Ysabel'.

Description (CMS Description)
Paddle of light wood. Leaf-shaped blade decorated with a row of fish and two frigate birds on one side and two frigate birds on the other. Traces of red pigments still visible on the frigate birds. Circular shaft, carved with a raised ring and geometric pattern in black at the very end. Crescent-shaped pommel, inserted into the shaft - possibly an indigenous repair. The pommel is not as finely carved as the rest of the paddle.
