Also displayed in the Pavillon des Indes Anglaises at the 1900 Paris Exhibition was a series of model fish traps from southern and eastern India (including parts of modern Bangladesh). Some of these were donated to this Museum following the closure of the exhibition in Paris.

Collected by Officers of the Indian Forest Department, each was accompanied by a brief caption giving its local name and use, but no information on the identities of its makers. These models were collected by Nathaniel Hearle, a Forest Officer of 20 years’ experience, just before his retirement.
