Although this gourd was previously thought to be from the Fly River Delta of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, the carving of the stopper is reminiscent of material from the Santa Cruz Islands.

Long gourd with undecorated surface. Hollowed out and filled with lime. Provided with a wooden stopper formed of four 'arms' in openwork projecting from the centre of the stopper.

Labels & inscriptions: A small label with internal blue border reads '207' handwritten in black ink. A circular label with serrated edges reads '2' stamped on it. A rectangular label glued to the other side reads: 'Lime Gourd / F. W. Green. M.A. 1912 / Bt Stevens July 2nd 1912'. 'Solomon Islands / 1912-682 and FLY DELTA N.G. [crossed off]' added in black ink later. 'Z 6220' inscribed in black ink above the rectangular label.
