The rubbing of the turtle-shell fretwork with red pigments suggests that It is unlikely that the object is originally from the Solomon Islands. In addition, the collector's label glued to the front is of a type not encountered in the Solomon Island collection housed at MAA.

Labels & inscriptions: a small label glued to the object reads: 'Woman [illegible] / Breast ornament' in brown ink and 'P41 12/1905', 'NIOD' and 'F.W.L.3.' in black ink. A label glued to the back reads: 'E.1908.283 / Shell disc ornament / ?Solomon Isl. / (Bt Webster, London.) / Purchased 1908.'
