Description (CMS Description)
Large drum-shaped container used to store canarium nuts consisting of a wooden cylindrical structure, slightly tapering towards the top and bound with leaves and leaf strips. 'Mesh' of vine-like plan material running along the object, all around it. Some of these strands are broken. The container is provided with a plaited leaf loop at the top for suspension. Contains nuts. Very heavy.

Labels & inscriptions: An old rectangular label attached to the object reads: '96. Solomon Islands. Bishop Selwyn 1896' and [added later:] 'Z 6012' in black ink. A smaller rectangular label glued to the other side of the previous one reads: '96. Solomon Islands. Bishop Selwyn 1896' in black ink. A large circular label with metallic rim reads: 'Z.6012 / Nut. conta- / Selwyn. Coll.' in black ink and 'SOLOMON IS.' on the other side.
