Description

Copper alloy small long cruciform brooch with rectangular headplate and half round side knobs; top knob missing. High-arched bow with rectangular section areas at top and bottom, each decorated with a transverse grooved line. Foot decorated with transverse grooved lines at top and bottom; terminal missing. Pin bar lugs and catchplate have been replaced, probably contemporaneously with sheet copper alloy, riveted through the headplate with iron rivets. Iron corrosion around pin bar lugs.

Michael J Cuddeford found this material during the mid 1990s during metal detecting in West Wickham. It has been registered with the Portable Antiquities Scheme and gifted to MAA. Description (Physical description)
An almost complete small long type Anglo Saxon bronze brooch. There are traces of iron left from the iron spring hinge and there are iron rivets from an old repair. The spring hinge, pin, foot and top knob are missing.
