Description

Forehead ornament made of a carved open work design in turtle-shell attached to a disk of Tridacna shell. There is a tassel of white and pink shell beads and black coconut shell bead attached to the centre of the object. The ornament is attached to a large band of finely plaited orchid fibre dyed red.

Catalogue card for Z 10856: 'Head ornament of a chief. It consists of a carved open work design in turtle shell mounted at the middle by a string of native fibre passed through a hole in a clam shell disk which acts as a background to the shell design'.
