Context (CMS Context)
This accession number has four catalogue cards. The original read: 'Forty five worked flints collected by Mr. Bellerby Lowerison and sent to Professor J.E. Marr. These include cores with narrow flakes removed from them, a burt flint, a flint hammerstone, scrapers, and small blades three of which have steeply blunted backs in the Mesolithic tradition. Date unknown possibly Mesolithic or early Neolithic. Thick white patina. d.d. Sedgwick Museum 1951, February' This card heavily edited at a later date, and the total number brought down to 42, and subsequently two new cards were produced, one for the Mesolithic material and one for the Neolithic material. However, for some reason, only the Mesolithic card was transcribed into the computerised catalogue and the types (microliths, scraper and blades) assigned suffixes. In March 2015, Lawrence Billington viewed all of this idno for his PhD at the University of Manchester, and assisted in the identification of the rest of the objects in the idno, which have now been assigned suffixes and given catalogue records. 9/3/2015 I.Gunn
