Description
Arrow; Bow - An historical bundle of four arrows and one bow, unaccessioned, unprovenanced and unmarked. It is unclear when this bundle was created and what relation the arrows and bow have with each other.
The 4 arrows all have a cane shaft and pointed, hardwood, tanged heads. 1 arrow head has a section of small barbs. The tips of the other three arrows are square in section (forming very elongated pyramidal points) with horizontal grooves marking the end of this point. All 4 arrows are bound with plant fibres at the base and top where the head meets the shaft.
The bow is a self-bow (being made from one piece of wood) with shaped nocks at either end to secure the string. It is oval in cross section and the double-corded string is still in situ.
