A rectangular white paper label adheres to the blade and reads [in brown ink:] 'MacGregor/R 1898' and [in pencil:] 'D. AvH.'An olbong white paper label with rounded corners adheres to the reverse of the blade and reads [in black ink:] 'D. 1903.111/Adze-head/New Guinea/Dep. A. von Hugel'. A large brown rectangular paper label adheres to the shaft and reads [in pencil:] 'D. 1903./(Macg [illegible])/Colling wood/Bay/Deposited A. v Hugel/D.1903' [and side-ways] 'A.v.H.'
