Several notes found accompanying this idno. One is on a catalogue card and written in several hands, at least one of which is Anne Taylor's. In blue ink: 'Boyd-Dawkins (1874-75 excavs.?) in Brynlow workings, inf. Simon Timberlake. 14.11.97 Colin Shell'. In black ink: 'To Accession'. In pencil (Anne Taylor's writing): 4 pieces. Ancient stone implement. Old copper mine Alderley Edge. Transfer from S. Museum. Brynlow (Brinlow) Mine, Alderley Edge, Cheshire. See Marc. [sic] Lit Phil. Soc.'. A second note, all in Anne Taylor's writing, reads: 'Professor Boyd-Dawkins 1870. Paper by Charles Roeder, 1901. Wooden shovel found at same time, recently dated, found to be 1750 BC.' This note refers to the Manchester (not March) Literary and Philosophical Society, for which Boyd Dawkins prepared a paper which was ultimately published by the Journal of the Anthropological Institute (see Bib). The Roeder paper is currently unidentified.
