Description
shield - Flat, oval wickerwork shield with rounded ends, a plaited string handle and padded leaf lining on the back. The shield is decorated with shell beads around the edges and on the front and in the form of a tassel in the centre. Around the edges the beads are black and white while the tassel is adorned with beads of red white and black. There is a band of red cane which crosses the shield at its widest point and within this are 5 white rings of shell. This band is also framed by smaller white shell beads.

This object's number (Z 7211) is likely to be incorrect: in the Z register, Z 7211 is an additional number given to the inlaid Solomon Island shield originally accessioned as E 1904.135 B. It is thus unknown what the correct IDNO of this shield is.
