On display on the Asia plinth in the Maudslay Hall, from May 2012.
Display label reads, 'Protective Demon / This striking wooden figure is a yaksha, a demon or giant that would have stood guard outside a Buddhist temple in Thailand. He is one of the demon soldiers in the army of Ravana, the king of Lanka in the Ramayana. In Thai temples yakshas often stand alongside monkey warriors, supporting the weight of the chedi or stupa that honours the Buddha. / Thailand, late 19th - early 20th century.'
