Description
Fish-hook of metal. A piece of mother-of-pearl carved in the shape of a fish/dolphin/shark has been attached to the back and tied on with plant fibre. A hackle formed of two tassels of red glass beads is tied to the lower part of the shank.

A small Beasley Collection label attached to the object reads: 'Beasley Coll. / SOLOMON / MALA / 1411 A/B' on one side and [added later]: '54.315 A' on the other. '54.315 A' inscribed in black ink on the object.

This object was previously in the collection of Harry Geoffrey Beasley, no. 1411 A/B. It is recorded in Beasley's original acquisition register (vol.2) as: 'SOLOMON GROUP: - A pair of spinner hooks. The barbs of iron attached to a pearl shell shank, shaped as a small fish. Hackles of trade beads. Locality: MALA. From the H.C. Collyer Coll. Sold Stevens Rooms.' Catalogue card notes in blue ink, handwritten, '5 tortoise shell fish hooks with mother of pearl or plain white shell weights in the form of fish. C,D & E - completely stylised. All but E have short strings of red, white or blue beads in various combinations attached to the binding which binds the weight to the shank'.
