Description (Physical description)
Accession register for 2005.655: 'Wooden toy aeroplane'.
Event Date 2005
Author: Lucie Carreau
Context (Production / use)
Made by Manasë for his son, and bartered for beads and fishing tackle. Aeroplanes and outboard motor-powered canoes are the only familiar form of motor transport in the village, charter flights on light aircraft being the only means of contact with the urbanised coastal areas of Surinam - the alternative journey of several weeks by river is rarely contemplated even when the water is high.
