Context (Field collection)
(Bio): Grotti. Vanessa, female collector.
Part of a group of objects, (2005.629-49), bought, bartered or received as a gift through the intermediary of the collectors' extended family. Made for the collectors by Tompouce. Kamina are no longer used, having been replaced with a different trapping method: suspending a baited hook and line from a young tree branch bent down towards the water so that the hook lies below the surface, kept in that position by means of a catch, which comes undone as the fish takes the bait, causing it to be lifted out of the water. Purchased for €20. See Crowther-Beynon Report by Vanessa Grotti and Marc Brightman, 2005
