Context (Production / use)
It is used by the women to sieve bricks of fried and squeezed bitter cassava (manihot utilissima) in order to turn it into thick flour which will be cooked into large flat discs of bread, ulu. It can also be used to filter the fresh thick cassava beer the day before consumption in order to make it smoother. There are various patterns for the sieve; this is basic one, some can have more complex designs.
