Description
Mat; Mat (part of) - Mat of woven pandanus (voivoi). Originally part of a larger mat and cut on three sides. On the fourth side, the pandanus strips have been divided up into small strips to form a fine border. The border shows remains of a red, blue & purple woollen fringe. Large hole in the border. Poor condition. Possibly from same mat as Z 30948 A & C.

Catalogue card reads [handwritten in blue pen:] 'Z 30948. MELANESIA. FIJI. 3 pieces of pandanus leaf matting. These have been cut from one piece and were used as backing material for Fiji displays in the Bevan Hall until 1979. G. K. Roth.' A small round red sticker pasted to the front of the card.
