Catalogue card reads [handwritten in blue ink:] '1951.417 A-D Oceania. Polynesia. New Zealand. A = Long, narrow, polished stone adze. Butt end rather battered and one corner of the cutting edge is missing. Length 8 1/2". Width of cutting edge probably 2". Width of butt 1 1/8". Pointed oval section. Picked up on the surface of the ground in Auckland by C.H. Delamain. Presented to the Sedgwick Museum by Professor T. McKenny Hughes.
B = Maori adze of baked argilite [sic]. Broken at the butt. Only polished at the cutting edge.'; [continues of reverse of card:] 'Thick, square section. Present length 5 4/5". Width of cutting edge 2 3/10". Thickness 4/5". Presented to the Sedgwick Museum by T.H. Easterfield.
C - D Two small chisels probably from New Zealand but neither are labeled [sic].

Inscription on the adze notes: 'Maori'; First old label affixed to affixed to surface notes: '11'.

A second old label affixed to surface of the adze notes: 'Maiori [sic] Adze made of baked argyllite.'.

A third old label affixed to surface of the adze notes: 'Presented by T.H. Easterfield Esq. 1925.' Record checked and revised by Amiria Salmond (2001.07.03).
