Inscribed in black ink with ''21966-40/ ORUARANGI/ PUR.'', which presumably refer to the site context or the Auckland Museum accession number.
A large circular orange sticker of unknown date and purpose has been adhered to the surface.

Context (Amendments / updates)
Part of an exchange of Pacific material from the Auckland Institute. Presumed to be part of the excavations at the pa in Oruarangi, which predates 1500 AD and was occupied until the early 1830s.
Information on the material is taken from lists that accompanied the material, with V.F. Fisher’s letter to C.B Humphreys, 15 May 1947, now held in MAA’s archives in the correspondence boxes.

Context (Amendments / updates)
Has a very cortical thickness which would be atypical for a human. Could possibly be part of a femur due to the curvature. Would benefit from proteomic analysis.
