Description (CMS Description)
Adze head of black stone. Oval in section. Very polished and smooth. Rounded tapering butt slanting at the top and underneath the object. Cutting edge formed by the surface slanting at the top and on the underside.

Letter M under the O X stands for Maudslay and H for von Hugel. A. P. Maudslay and' [stamped in black ink:] 'THE VON HÜGEL COLLECTION CIRCA 1875.' [in pencil in the bottom left corner:] 'Case 7'. [stamped in blue ink in the bottom right corner:] 'SHOW CASE NUMBER 7'. [added in blue pen:] 'A.H.G. 5/6/79 There are, in fact, 46 with this number. The one numbered Z 3130 (44) is a fish net sinker + has been boxed with fishing objects.' [added in pencil:] '45 implements + 1 sinker'. A round red sticker pasted on the card. At the back of the card, [handwritten in black pen:] 'Z. 3130 (44) is a fishnet sinker?'. [handwritten in blue pen:] 'Z 3130 (25) diorite'.
