Sthembiso Sibisi was born in Umlazi, a township in Durban, South Africa, in 1976, where he went to school until Standard 9. He then studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technical College in Durban. Sibisi participated in a printmaking programme at the Caversham Press, Balgowan, South Africa, and in printmaking workshops at he Natal Technikon in Durban. He currently paints murals and works as a sign writer for Pepsi, S.A. Breweries and Coca Cola. Sibisi also produces limited edition prints through the Caversham Press and Stepping Stone Press, Durban. He specialised in lithography.
Sibisi has participated in the following exhibitions: Playhouse, Durban (1992), “Art from the Caged Soulsâ€, African Art Centre Christmas Exhibition, KwaMashu, Durban (1993), Grahamstown Arts Festival (1994), Standard Bank Grahamstown Arts Festival “Spirits of Our Stories†(1995), and Natal Arts Trust Exhibition, Durban (1996).
Sibisi won the first prize in the Amasi eGuta Art Competition in 1994, and has been commissioned to paint murals at Umlazi Station by Intersite Property Management in 1997. He also participated in mural paintings by the Community Mural project in Durban from 1992 to 1995. http://www.afh.org.za/sthembiso-sibisi

Presented by The Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. An acquisition project to build a collection of modern and contemporary work on paper from Australia, Canada and South Africa was undertaken over 2011-13 with the support of a grant under The Art Fund's RENEW programme. The collection was developed with the expert advice and generous assistance of Annie Coombes and Norman Vorano in relation to South African and Inuit artists respectively. Khadija Carroll, Anita Herle and Diana Wood Conroy also contributed to the selection process. Obtained from The Caversham Press, The Caversham Press, P.O.
