Context (CMS Context)
A small square white paper label adheres to the shaft and notes'4' printed in black ink. Another oblong white label is tied to the foreshaft and reads [handwritten in pencil]:'Op Op (Le op)'. The latter label is similar to what are known in the museum as 'Haddon Labels' therefore it is possible he was the collector and or donor. The 'O.H. 571' number written in white ink on the shaft of the arrow also suggest this.

Description (CMS Description)
Arrow of the 'man' arrow type. Plain cane shaft split in a few places. Wooden foreshaft secured to the shaft with red pigmented vegetable fibre binding and resin. Foreshaft carved with a shark motif, followed by a face of a man, which is carved in a Janus style, though the back of the head has no facial features. Small barbs near the point. All carvings show white pigment residue ?lime. Additional red pigment between shark and face carving. Smooth wooden point.
