Context (Analysis)
On 20 March 2015, Professor Norman Hammond, University of Cambridge, examined this bowl and dated it to the 8th century AD. This information has now been added to the Period field.

Description (Physical description)
Shallow bowl of buff fabric with painted decoration. Hemispherical section; wide mouth with slightly inverted rim; walls taper to a flat base. Exterior painted with stylised red and brown feathers on a cream background; brown feathers are grouped in threes with different numbers of red feathers between the groups; each feather has two circular areas where the cream background comes through and a central painted dot of the same colour as the feather. Interior is painted red; rim is brown. Wear to the paint on the base and around the rim.
