Description (CMS Description)
Bamboo flute made from a piece of bamboo sealed at both ends by a node. The top has a short section of bamboo above the node, which has been cut into a leaf shaped point with a slot extending from the tip towards the base; a second one on the other side has broken off. Four holes have been cut through the bamboo: one on the base, one on the shaft near the base and two more along the shaft near the top. The topmost hole is the widest and forms the mouthpiece and both holes at the top have a paler section of wood around them, suggesting they were covered at some point. An incised drawing of a sailing ship occurs halfway down the shaft, aligned horizontally. [Heather Donoghue 27.06.2012]
