Description (CMS Description)
Circular woven basket made from undyed coconut or pandanus leaf. Square plaited twill base with frond-like ends inside the basket where the base has been inserted. The lower half of the sidewall has a band of chequer plaiting followed by alternating bands of horizontal and vertical twill plaiting. Near the top is a band of vertical plaited twill separated at intervals by reflected barava motifs (opposing triangles with the apex facing inwards) with a band of horizontal twill plaiting above this at the lip of the basket. The basket has been crushed and has split across one side where sidewall has folded in on itself. (Heather Donoghue 25.06.2012)

Labels & inscriptions: White label attached to basket reads [handwritten in black ink:] 'Z 5192 B' [incorrect number]. 'Z 5192 E' is inscribed on the object in black ink, inside, under a fold. 'Z 6206 B' is inscribed on the object on the outside of the basket, in black ink.
