This basket belongs to a series accessioned as Z 5185, Z 5186, Z 5187, Z 5188 and Z 5189 (See Z register). There is no explanation as to why the card for Z 5189 as been turned into a card for Z 5189 A-E, a series of objects that is NOT recorded in the register. There is also no obvious reason why Z 6203 (+ suffixes A, C, D & E) have been written on some of these baskets as they are clearly marked with the Z number from the Z 5185-Z5189 series. The numbers retained for MAA’s database entries (Z 5185-Z are those that correspond to the objects as they are described in the Z register. Other numbers, while recorded in the object’s database entry, should be ignored.

Description (CMS Description)
Woven basket in two colours: natural fibre colour and grey (possibly darker originally). Squashed so has ripped in various places and is now flat. Originally circular, probably with vertical walls, similar to Z 5186-Z 5189. The basket terminates on the inside being knotted along a line forming a square and trimmed.
