Although there is no precise information re: the acquisition of this object, it is likely to have come from a collection formed by Walter Coote in the Pacific in 1880 and donated to the Museum by Mrs Barkley and Mrs Hornsby in 1941.

Description (CMS Description)
Length of shell money formed of eight strands, tied together at both ends. Predominantly formed of red spondylus shell beads with occasional sections decorated with white tridacna shell and black beads. Small tassels of shell beads with a piece of black cloth, one with a seed shell. On a cord of vegetable fibre. Several strands are broken. Two sections are broken and have been bagged separately along with some beads.
