Description (CMS Description)
Black Pearl shell (Pinctada sp.) cut into half-round. The exterior of the shell has been abraded and the pearlescent interior is decorated with an incised design. The top third of the shell depicts a line of three frigate birds with two rows of fish and bonito fish above them and possibly a ?dolphin on one side. Beneath this are six horizontal bands consisting of a line of zigzags; two bands of triangles formed from repeated horizontal lines; a band of part concentric squares with a cross through each and part chevrons; a band of chevrons and a band of concentric squares with a cross through each. In addition there is a seventh band of zigzag motifs covering half the width of the shell. [Heather Donoghue 12.06.2012]
