Description (CMS Description)
Wooden ornament carved in relief resembling a European Mediaeval poppy-head finial. The flat reverse is fleur-de-lys in shape and is decorated with an incised design filled with lime; the top and bottom is framed by a double border separated by two bands of zigzag motifs running horizontally across the widest part of the ornament. The top band is made up of a repeated series of three in-filled triangles; the bottom band is a zigzag with in-filled triangles filling the negative spaces either side. There is a double cross motif at the centre top and, beneath the bands of zigzag motifs, frigate bird tail motifs at the centre bottom. [Heather Donoghue 12.06.2012]
