Description (CMS Description)
Carved Malangan headdress mask. The wooden face is painted with the eyes formed from opucula. The head-crest is made of plant fibre and is built on a basketry base with part of a cotton towel wrapped on its base. One side of the crest is decorated with red, yellow, and cream/white wool in triangular patterns, encased in a cresent shaped field outlined in blue, red, pink and yellow. The other side is decorated with a different pattern encased in a cresent shaped field outlined in black and white, inside which are two woollen triangles of striped green, blue and red, the other with some white. white green and blue. The remainder of the space is filled up with plant fibre in an hourglass shape.
