Raymond noted that the t-shirt had belonged to Ole Maiava, the Pasifka Festival Director for the last 5 years and a mentor of hers. It was literally taken off his back! The festival is held yearly in Auckland and Raymond was a big part of the first one, For her the festival was the deeply embedded in the development of the Exhibition Pasifika Styles, as she used it as a base in a way, as many of the artists came to mainstream attention through the festival or it was a place where they all met..... It was important for her that the exhibition was part of the festival, which is why we had a stall there, to connect to the community and be a part of the living dynamic of the festival. When she saw the t-shirt she was thrilled that they had copied us in terms of visual language as for Raymond it was a very big compliment to think we had some sort of impact on the festival. Raymond thought the t-shirt would be important in the collection because they had been directly influenced by the first visual branding of Pasifka Styles enough so that they rendered it in their own way on the staff t-shirts worn on the festival day. Description (Physical description)
Black T-shirt decorated on the front with a plastic printed design. The central logo reads ‘PASIFIKA FESTIVAL15 years’ and has a four-petalled line drawing in red, green, yellow, purple and black. Under this drawing there is a dark blue band with the words ‘Auckland City’ written in white. This design is positioned within a collage of images of a fan, a basket, barkcloth, a grass skirt, a head dress and a coconut containers. These images all have earthy colours. The back of the T-shirt has silver letters printed reading: ‘PRODUCTION TEAM’.
