Description

Tjevet. Wide, man’s kilt of black synthetic fibre with beaded waistband. Front of waistband decorated with band of anthropomorphic faces in orange, green, yellow and red glass beads; small aluminium discs between each face and three rows of beads below in purple, black and green. Two larger anthropomorphic faces wearing ovoid headdresses set at centre thirds. Simple machine stitched hem along kilt bottom and short ties either side of waistband.

Man’s costume (2007.473 - 2007.477) presented to Rev. Whitehorn and his first wife, Elizabeth Hope Grant Whitehorn, by the churches of north-western Paiwan territory in 1969. The costume was probably made by people from the north and western side of the territory.

Description (Physical description)
Man’s black kilt with embroidered waistband, which depicts several human faces. Arranged in between the faces are small aluminium discs. The waistband’s centre in the front and back show a larger head wearing a hat. The skirt is open, and is fastened with two black straps.
