Context (Production / use)
This tool is used in the making of 'zisha' pots in the Jiangsu Province of China. It is used to cut strips of clay, either straight or curved. Cf. 2004.183, 2004.184, 2004.185, 2005.30, 2005.31, 2005.32, 2005.33.
Potters often make their own tools, but this example was made by a specialist pottery tool maker.

Description (Physical description)
Bamboo tool for making pottery teapots. The bamboo wedge (B) on the top of the second blade (C) can be removed and replaced to vary the cutting length. The end blade is inserted in a knot of the bamboo, to avoid splitting. The tool is marked with two seals in red ink, the surname of the maker above the blade, and the given name at the end of the handle.
