Made for sale by Moran anak Juni, Kpg Pueh., SematanThe Selako are officially classified as ‘Bidayuh’ in Sarawak despite speaking a Malayic (rather than Bidayuhic) dialect and originating in a different area. The Selako identity is still very salient, although they usually concede to being ‘Bidayuh’ too. Comes in a variety of sizes; carries farm produce like bananas and durians, vegetables, firewood, etc. Appears to be the most commonly used generic carrier in the Selako area. Similar to baskets found among other Sarawakian groups, e.g. the Iban (some of whom live in the same area) basket of the same name.

Description (CMS Description)
Medium-sized basket made mainly of vertical strips of rattan (wi batu) tapering inwards to form a bluntly squared base (bontod, ‘bottom’). Warp held together at intervals by twined horizontal and a few vertical supports (pangain, all wi batu except for plastic cord near the base). Tarap, or bark carrying strap is tied round the main body. Back board made of sago skin (amung). The suggested price, Rm 13, is written in marker pen on the board.
