Context (CMS Context)
(Bio): Liana C.L. Chua, female collectorMade within Sarawak – probably Jagoi area. Commissioned and designed by Edric Ong for sale at his gallery (Edric Ong Design) in Kuching’s Main Bazaar. Collected by Liana Chua.Good example of how an existing Bidayuh basket form has been adapted and re-worked by a local artist and designer (who is well known for working with Sarawakian motifs, materials and objects). The gallery has several such pieces (different sizes), all commissioned and made in local villages (probably Serikin in the Jagoi area). Also an example of a new regime of value that a basic Bidayuh object has entered: the fine art market.
