Description
Basket - Small rattan (wi perdoi) basket. Hexagonal weave (girai) on the lower half, extending upwards into a fine vertical weave (panug). Pipien rim (looser than simu) with ririt below. Single strip of bamboo (tring) for the kejit (‘ear’; where the carrying strap is attached). Crossed strips of tring at the base.

(Bio): Liana C.L. Chua, female collector An unusual design for a Bidayuh basket, combing two different weaves; maker says the design is her own. Probably made for decorative purposes, although it can be used to hold betel nut, sireh leaf, etc. Despite being in Bau, Kampung Tringgus’ inhabitants are originally from the Padawan area, and continue to speak Biatah, the Padawan dialect. Many of the component names are thus similar to those in the Penrissen/Padawan areas.
