Description

tray - Shallow tightly-woven tray, with rattan (wi mayi) frame bound to the bamboo body by fine plastic cord (ririt). Weft (paan) = rougher, lighter underside; warp (tengoh) = smoother surface; occurring at 1:4 intervals. ‘Bottom’, i.e. the two ends, are a mixture of rattan (wi perdoi) and bamboo (pisah) strips. Older people identify a visual pattern in the weft strips, referring to them as moving diagonally upwards to the right (ta’u).
