Description

tray - Circular tightly woven tray, made of bamboo (pisah) and rattan (wi perdoi, wi mayi). Sturdy frame made of a large, hard species of rattan (wi mayi); bound to tray by thinner more pliable rattan loops (ririt made of wi perdoi). Begins with a central ‘square’ axis (temboh) made of evenly-sized strips in a vertical weave (2:2; ‘pakat duwuh, kabang duwuh’ (lift up two, put down two). Becomes 1:1 as it expands. Visual pattern: a series of expanding square diamonds around the original axis.
