Description
trap - Flexible, loosely woven triangular trap, made of rattan (wi perdoi), with gaps large enough to let water through but small enough to trap fish, snails, prawns, crabs, etc. Vertical weave is anchored by two strips reaching downwards (temboh) from the corners of the pointed end, from which the rest of the object takes shape. Ends of rattan strips fold over at the top (rattan strip which serves as rim = naron) and are secured by a ririt (three levels of finishing made of wi perdoi)

(Bio): Liana C.L. Chua, female collector Ngabang = to catch fish using a sikob. Water drains out of the gaps while catch remains trapped. Best used in muddy, shallow areas, not in fas-flowing water. New sikob are often crafted over existing ones, starting from the pointed end. Bought 25/05/05. Made to order by Miner anak Jehong (Sindu Gotot), Kampung Benuk.
