Context (Production / use)
‘Material: Milo wood (Thespasia populnea), an indigenous littoral hardwood. Construction: side branch is cut off the tree using a chain saw and a 1m bush knife by Isikeli Fehoko. It is sanded electronically and the surface incised with gouge and mallet by Mateaki Simoni. Kafa lashed and negotiation of project by Tevita Fifita.
Artists: all participants related by marriage of paternity. All male. Mateaki was 16 years old. All residents of Nukunuku village, Tongatapu Island, Tonga. 21-23rd 2005’

Description (CMS Description)
Club of the non-traditional type with a square head section, flat end and cylindrical handle and a raised collar. The upper 460mm are incised with kupesi-patterns and images of human, crescents, bird, turtle, fish, arrow, bird, dog, chicken, man and dog, warrior and human. The handle is wrapped with kafa (coconut husk sennit) and the whole object is oiled with lolo tonga (tongan coconut oil, cocos nucifera).
