Description
Presentation sperm whale tooth (tabua), provided with silver fittings at the tip and butt, and hung on a braided cord of coir. An oval silver plaque is inlaid on the front of the tabua and incised with the following: 'Presented By The Staff Of Carreras Limited On The Occasion Of The Visit Of His Excellency The Governor Sir Robert Foster K.C.M.G. On December 8th 1969'.

Whale tooth tabua with silver plaque and fittings on a rope. Whale tooth topped and bottomed with silver. There is a silver plaque in the centre. The coconut fibre cord is attached with three metal rings to the whale’s tooth. The plaque reads: “Presented by the staff of Carreas Ltd on the occasion of the visit of His Excellency the Governor Sir Robert Foster KCMG on December 8 1969”

Presentation sperm whale tooth (tabua), provided with silver fittings at the tip and butt, and hung on a braided cord of coir reminiscent of the watabu cords of tanoa bowls. The cord is attached to both ends of the silver fittings. The butt cavity seems to have been filled with a red substance (?wax). The surface is very smooth and polished. very light cream colour. An oval silver plaque is inlaid on the front of the tabua and incised with the following: 'Presented By The Staff Of Carreras Limited On The Occasion Of The Visit Of His Excellency The Governor Sir Robert Foster K.C.M.G. On December 8th 1969'. '2005.692' inscribed in black ink on the top of the tabua near the tip (L. Carreau, 26/11/2012).
