Description

club - Ornamental club made of wood and tusks of the white-lipped peccary (tayassu pecari). the handle is made of wama hale, arouman, Ischnosiphon arouma and bound with wulawaito (silk grass, bromelia sp.). It is decorated with feathers of kïnolo (scarlet macao, ara macao). ‘The club is mainly black with engraved designs and some brown painting. The lower part of the club has 2 tusks. Towards the pointy end there are bamboo strips tied with cotton. There is one multicoloured feather attached to the club. F. Veys, 13/6/2006’

Objects 2005.622, 2005.624 -2005.628 were acquired by purchase in January 2005 from Chef Coutumier André Cognat and made for the cultural association Yepe. Total cost was €500. This club is of a type formally carried by young men during drinking parties or ceremonies. Known as ‘casse-tête’ in French Creole.
